Rumi Moment of the Week — The Meaning of Love

Both Light and Shadow are the Dance of Love.

Both Light and Shadow are the Dance of Love.

I appreciate the “love and light” movement that is happening within non-traditional religious circles these days. We do not do a great job of instilling, observing, and appreciating this understanding of inborn goodness within one another. YOU ARE of Love and Light. Now that being said, you are also the shadows and the darkness. It is just as helpful to know ourselves completely as the light and the dark, the helpful and the petty, the lover and the traitor. I often enjoy Walt Whitman’s take on this matter:

“Do I contradict myself? Fine, I contradict myself. I am large, I contain multitudes.”

May we see the ourselves and the world as Rumi and Walt does. Let us embrace everything that arises — knowing that all things happen for the good of those who love Life.

The Meaning of Love

Both light and shadow
are the dance of Love.

Love has no cause;
it is the astrolabe of God’s secrets.

Lover and Loving are inseparable
and timeless.

Although I may try to describe Love
when I experience it I am speechless.

Although I may try to write about Love
I am rendered helpless;
my pen breaks and the paper slips away
at the ineffable place
where Lover, Loving and Loved are one.

Every moment is made glorious
by the light of Love.
