Many people think Agnosticism is a faithless endeavor. But that’s not true at all. I have faith in lots of things, including the words of all of the mystics who insist there is exceptional bliss beyond the ego:
Rumi says it all the time:
Remember, the entrance door to the sanctuary is inside you.
Jesus let them know:
nor will people say , ‘here it is,’ or ‘there it is,’ because the kingdom of God is within you.
When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be.
Osho is a bit more technical:
Consciousness can do two things: it can create ego, it can create egolessness. If it creates ego you live in hell, if it creates egolessness you are in paradise.
Sri Sathya Sai Baba:
…banish the go and develop the spirit of surrender. You will then experience Bliss.
Even Deepak Chopra gets in on it:
If you want to reach a state of bliss, then go beyond your ego and the internal dialogue.
Enlightenment is ego’s ultimate disappointment.
Sri Guru Granth Sahib uses strong words to describe it:
The sickness of my ego has been dispelled, and my pain is over and done.
All troubles come to an end when the ego dies; it is on account of the ego that one is not able to see God.
When there is cessation of the knowable, and the flow of attention is towards that which is not knowable (pure intelligence), then there is fulfillment and one goes beyond sorrow.
Meister Eckhart put is simply:
The less there is of “I,” the more there is of God.
What you seek is already within you. You uncover it by shedding all that is untrue within you.
My teacher from beyond time, Mevlana Jaluddin Rumi started and will end this thread:
Sever the chains of the ego. Set yourself free and witness the bright essence of your inner being. Discover within your heart the wisdom of a prophet without books, without teachers, and without prudence.
Releasing the need to control, the need to be approved, and the need to judge, along with the understanding that all separation is false is addressed across religious and philosophical traditions. They are all telling us the treasure is within, and I believed them — and sometimes, like this past Sunday Morning while sitting with soulful beings, I know it for myself. Therein lies my faith. I am dancing with the ego to surpass its limitations, to be in union with Spirit, and lift the veil of illusion that is this world.
